Post 16 is a partnership between Elizabethan Academy, Retford Oaks Academy and North Notts College. We have high aspirations for our students and high expectations of them too. The collaboration between our three institutions supports our students, every step of the way, with a strong pastoral programme, augmented by personalised careers advice and regular opportunities to work with first-class universities such as Nottingham, Sheffield and Cambridge.
We are proud of our facilities, proud of our strong pastoral ethos and proud of our students. Retford Post 16 is big enough to provide excellent facilities and a range of courses, yet small enough for you not to get “lost” in a large, impersonal institution. Many, but not all, of our students come from either the Elizabethan or Retford Oaks, and knowing you and your abilities is a real bonus when it comes to making a positive start.
“Ensuring Excellence” is more than just a strapline. We firmly believe that our students have the potential to excel. Our mission is to develop well-rounded individuals for the future, with personalities as well as grades! Increasing numbers of our students are receiving unconditional offers from their first choice universities, a reflection of the opportunities for enrichment and personal development that they have taken whilst with us.
We have a thriving Extended Leadership Team, led by our Head Boy and Head Girl, and an active Charities Committee. The hard work and dedication of both of these makes a real difference to the life of the Centre and the wider community as a whole. A-Levels are often seen as a stepping stone for university, and most of our students leave us at the end of Year 13 for higher education. Increasing numbers are now gaining higher apprenticeships, where they have the potential to earn more money than they would have done on an apprenticeship at the age of 16. The Government has changed the format of A-Levels and is phasing the new courses in over a three year period. The intention is for all courses in future to be linear, with all exams sat at the end of Year 13. Increasingly, students are opting for three subjects, which they continue through to the end of their time with us. Vocational education is provided by North Notts College, with thriving courses in Sports and Exercise Science and Hair and Beauty, with the introduction of a new, full-time Health and Social Care course from September 2017.
